Tip of the Week – July 9 – 15
Help your child develop resiliency skills by allowing them to solve some of their own age appropriate problems such as what clothes to wear or activity choices.
Tip of the Week – July 2 – 8
Have a highly active child? Help them calm down when over active or tired by using slow breathing, counting and other relaxation exercises.
Tip of the Week – June 25-Jul 1
If your child tends to avoid new experiences and seems to ‘go into their shell’, allow him or her to keep their comfort items/routines for as long as they need to, even if they need it far longer than other children.
Tip of the Week – June 18-24
Giving your child choices and consequences is one way to discipline him/her.
Tip of the Week: June 11-17
Do you have a strong-willed child? Try giving him/her choices within limits to positively empower them and help diffuse some of the potential power struggles.
Tip of the Week: May 28-June 3
Positive instructions focus on desired behaviour and encourage a cooperative response. Tell children what you want from them. Example, “Walk slowly please.” Or “Please listen quietly.”
Tip of the Week: May 21-27
Children have a goal of behaviour for justice and fairness. When this is present they are interested in cooperating. They will return kindness for hurt and ignore belittling comments. When this happens let the child know you appreciate their interest in cooperating.
