This module, Executive Dysfunction and Your Child will help you answer these questions AND provide you with some simple but helpful strategies that can support them.

This module compliments each of the learning disabilities modules and provides you with additional information.

 

Parenting/Caregiver Tip

Did you know that up to 90% of kids with ADHD also have executive function challenges? It’s important to start helping kids with ADHD/EFD early, and to acknowledge the problems those disorders cause so that kids don’t feel stupid or lazy.

Module Objectives

By completing this e-learning course, you will:

  • List some of the common signs of Executive Dysfunction.

  • Learn some general strategies to help manage time, space, materials, and work that can help your child stay organized and on task.

DR. EWA J. ANTCZAK, PH.D, C.PSYCH
Dr. Ewa J. Antczak is a registered school psychologist with many years of experience. She is affiliated with pre-doctoral psychology internship consortium and for many years, she has been providing supervision for practicum and internship students at the Toronto Catholic District School Board. Since 2001, she has been working as an Assistant Professor at the University of Social Sciences and Humanities where she was teaching courses on Psychology of Personality, Cognitive Psychology, Social Psychology, Psychology of Emotion and Motivation, and Statistics. Dr. Ewa J. Antczak developed Ideal Me program for youths, their parents and teachers. She has presented at many conferences, professional development sessions, as well as workshops and trainings. Dr. Ewa J. Antczak is affiliated with the Ontario Psychological Association where she is a member of Section on Psychology in Education (SecPe). She is a chair of the Learning Disability Intensive Support Programing Committee, and a member of a Learning Disability Programming Recommendations Committee, as well as an Alternative Curriculum and Assistive Technology Committees.

LORRI KING B.A. B. ED., Special Education OCT
Lorri King is a Special Education Teacher/Tutor for the LDAPR.
Lorri began her career at Michigan State University earning a bachelor’s degree with majors in Math, Psychology and Special Education. She subsequently earned a B.Ed. focusing on Special Education, at McMaster University in Hamilton.
Lorri loves being a Special Ed. Teacher and has worked for the Toronto and Halton Boards of Education for several years. She has taught adults within the WSIB return to work programs for injured workers. She brings a variety of experiences gained from training and teaching adults in the transportation, grocery industry and waste industries
She believes that every person deserves the chance to learn. Finding the optimal way each student learns is challenging and interesting to her. She says it’s a wonderful feeling for both when we reach the “break through point” and the “aha” experience comes our way. Creativity, flexibility and motivation are key.
She lives with her husband in Mississauga and has two wonderful sons. Her spare time is spent listening to seminars and learning the latest about teaching students with special needs. Every day is a learning adventure for her.
